Research Methods in Political Science is a required course for majors at the University of Maryland Baltimore County, and it has presented significant challenges for students. Students are more likely to withdraw from this course or receive a lower grade compare 
to other courses.  In this chapter, we analyze the academic and demographic factors that affect performance in research methods and report the results of a survey of student attitudes regarding the course. Based on these data, the department changed its research methods curriculum, and the preliminary data suggest this intervention has increased student performance.
